A different name

The R&D name "Multi-Probe"  was replaced by the final name "SmartSPM^TM". SmartSPM better discribes the nature of the instrument: a learning tool that adjusts its settings by evaluating the interaction between tip and sample.

Automation & Operation

Designed to produce high-resolution surface data at the click of a button without any manual tuning.

 In Quick-Mode, one only needs to plug-in the cantilever, select the imaging mode and set the scanning area. Then press the Start button and the image will be taken. Through an interactive dialoque box the user follows the alignment, approach, scanning and remoting process steps until the data is presented for evaluation and interpretation.

 In Advanced Mode, the user can interrupt automatic operation at any step in the process and change operating settings.

 In Design of Experiment Mode, the user can pre-program the system using a convenient macro interface, to execute multiple predefined operations sequentially. The motorized sample positioning allows as well automatic image stitching.

Speed, Overview, Atoms, Metrology & Zoom

The SmartSPM^TM 1000 holds an ultra-light orthogonal sample scanner with resonances far above the regular accoustic level. This makes it insensitive to external vibrations and sounds and enables it to trace the surface profile with unprecedented precision and speed. Moreover this scanner is completely drift compensated and closed loop making it a metrology instrument. And last but not least one will enjoy it's errorless power zoom from a large 100 x 100 x 10 um overview scan all the way down to atomic resolution. No more need to use another scanner for hich resolution imaging.

Remote & Control

Remote control and a 1300nm IR cantilever registration laser specializes the SmartSPM^TM 1000 ideally for operation in a dark-room, a glove box or another controlled environment.

The SmartSPM^TM 1000 is the heart and the start of an advanced integrated system where high-resolution optical and spectroscopic techniques are combined with superior scanning probe microscopy bringing spectral analysis down to the nano scale.
